Answer #1:
look up the times online and buy your ticket once you get on the trainits very simple haha and the people will help you
pat attention to your stop!
Answer #2:
First of all - ignore any advice to buy the tickets on the trian. Tickets bought on the train cost from $6.00 to $6.25 than if you bought it from a vending machine on the platform or from a ticket window (if there is one at your station).I think you want to get to the Broadway Mall in Hicksville.
From Syosset, take a NY-bound LIRR train (Port Jefferson Branch) to the Hicksville station (one stop). From there you can either walk to the mall (about a mile) or take the N80 or N81 Bus to the mall.
At 15 you will be required to pay the full adult fare: $2.50. You should buy 2 tickets so you have one for the return trip.
Check the timetable below for the trains heading to NY that stop at Syosset and at Hicksville. Plan to be at the Syosset station no later than 15 minutes before the train is scheduled to arrive. When the train comes, get on and find a seat. A conductor will come around asking for your ticket. Just give him or her one of the tickets (save the other for the return trip). They will punch and keep the ticket. When the train gets to Hicksville, get off and go to the street and either walk or go to the bus stop for the bus.
When the bus comes get on and pay the fare in COINS (unless you have a MetroCard). The fare is $2.25. Ask the bus driver when the bus gets to the Broadway Mall, then get off at the mall. Also ask where the bus stop is for when you want to go back.
To go home just do the steps in reverse (Check the timetable for a Port Jefferson branch train stopping at Hicksville that stops at Syosset). .
Timetables:
LIRR Port Jefferson branch (select Port Jefferson first and then To NY for weekday or weekend).
You should be able to get a paper copy at Syosset or HIsckvilel station.
